Our Scent Stories
Four Mile Citrus
Before Rustic Roots was a brand, it was a feeling.
This is the first scent in our Heritage Collection — inspired by my roots and the stories that raised me.
“Four Mile Citrus” is named for a place that still lives in my heart.
My dad grew up along Four Mile Creek in Drew County, deep in south Arkansas — in a small, modest home tucked into the land. The house itself is long gone now, but remnants of it remain on the farmland my dad later worked. Every time I passed that spot, I found myself wondering what life must have been like there for him… for my aunts and uncles… for children growing up with very little, yet surrounded by family, land, and love.
I often think about my grandmother — how strong she must have been to raise her children there. How much resilience it took. How much quiet courage. And how, despite the simplicity of that life, she did it lovingly. Fully. Without bitterness. She built a home not with excess, but with heart.
“Four Mile Citrus” was created to honor that kind of strength.
It’s bright and warm, like sunlight breaking through the trees along the creek. Fresh, hopeful, and grounded — a reminder that even the humblest beginnings can grow into something beautiful. That roots matter. That where we come from shapes who we become.
This scent is about legacy. About the women and men who came before us — who built lives with their hands and hearts so future generations could stand a little taller. It’s the heart of our Heritage Collection, because everything meaningful I’m building traces back to places like that.
“Four Mile Citrus” is more than a candle.
It’s a thank-you.
It’s a remembering.
It’s home.

Daddy’s Flannel Shirt
Before Rustic Roots was a brand, it was love.
Daddy’s Flannel Shirt is one of those scents that needed time before it was shared.
To me, it smells like safety.
Like early mornings and steady hands.
Like the quiet confidence of a man who showed love through presence, work, and faith — not loud words.
My dad has always been the example of what complete love looks like. Despite life never being easy, he moved through it with a calm strength that only comes from unshakable faith. He taught me how to work. How to stand firm. How to do the right thing even when no one is watching.
This scent is warm, familiar, and deeply comforting — soft cotton, worn flannel, and the kind of steadiness that makes you feel at home the moment you walk in the door.
Daddy’s Flannel Shirt was created to honor that kind of love.
The kind that protects.
The kind that stays.
The kind you carry with you forever.

No. 6
Some numbers come and go. This one stayed.
Before Rustic Roots was a brand, it was love.
And sometimes, love leaves its fingerprints on our lives in ways we don't fully understand until years later.
For me, one of those fingerprints is the number six.
My brother Neal was born on March 6. My son Neal was born on June 6, 2006. Even the day I married the love of my life carries that same number — June 26.
Some might call it coincidence. But I've come to believe that certain things in life are woven together with a purpose far greater than we can see.
I lost my brother, but I never lost the love I have for him. And somehow, through the years, that little number has continued to remind me that the people we love never truly leave the stories we're writing.
No. 6 is a soft, beautiful, familiar fragrance — the kind that makes a house feel like home. But to me, it's so much more than a scent.
It's a reminder that love doesn't end when a life does.
That family is both the people we hold in our arms and the ones we carry in our hearts.
And that sometimes, the smallest things hold the greatest meaning.
No. 6 wasn't named for a fragrance.
It was named for the people who made my life what it is.
Some numbers come and go.
This one stayed.

Sunday at Savannah’s
Before Rustic Roots was a brand, it was a kitchen… my grandmother’s kitchen.
Introducing the next scent in the Seasonal Collection: Sunday at Savannah’s.
My grandmother’s kitchen was the kind that was always open, always warm, and always ready to feed one more person. Rachel Savannah, my grandmother, showed love the way so many Southern grandmamas did — through her cooking, her table, and the way she made everyone feel welcome the moment they walked through the door.
Her kitchen wasn’t fancy. It didn’t need to be.
It was filled with slow mornings, long conversations, and the kind of care you don’t rush. Sundays there felt different — steadier somehow — like the world could wait while family gathered and stories were shared.
Sunday at Savannah’s was created to honor that kind of love.
It’s warm, familiar, and comforting, with a hint of sweetness — the feeling of standing in a kitchen where generations have gathered, where food was more than food and time together was the point. It’s the reminder that the women who raised us built more than homes… they built foundations.
Rustic Roots Mercantile exists to honor Southern heritage and build a legacy that lives on long after me. This candle is part of that legacy — a way to keep those kitchens, those women, and those moments alive in our own homes.

Pine & Christmas Memories
This scent is part of our Seasonal Collection — Pine & Christmas Memories.
Every year when I was growing up, we had a real Christmas tree.
One year, my dad, my brother, and I piled into the truck and headed down the gravel road across from our house — the same road that led to the fields my family farmed. We walked the land together, scanning the trees, debating which one was the one. Eventually, we spotted a tree we were sure was perfect.
It was NOT.
By the time we got it home, set up, and stepped back… it was always the ugliest Christmas tree you’ve ever seen. Crooked. Sparse. Lopsided. Absolutely terrible.
And absolutely perfect.
Because what mattered was never how it looked — it was who I was standing next to when we chose it.
My brother is no longer with us.
And those moments — the cold air, the crunch of gravel, the smell of evergreen clinging to our coats — are sacred to me now. The kind of memories that don’t fade, only deepen. The kind that live on through scent.
That unmistakable smell of a real Christmas tree instantly takes me back. Back to laughter. Back to teasing. Back to a simpler time when all that mattered was being together, even if the tree was ugly.
Especially if the tree was ugly.
Pine & Christmas Memories was created to honor those moments — the imperfect ones that become priceless with time. It smells like fresh-cut pine, winter air, and the quiet magic of Christmas morning before the house wakes up.
It’s a reminder that the most beautiful things in life aren’t polished or perfect.
They’re real. They’re lived in. They’re shared.

The Miles Reserve
Part of our Seasonal Collection
Faith. Fields. Family. Forever.
Before Rustic Roots was a brand, it was heritage.
It was generations of hands that worked the land, knees that bent in prayer, and hearts that understood that the greatest things in life could never be bought.
Before I was anything else, I was a Miles.
And that name meant something.
I come from a family rooted deep in the Arkansas Delta. Farmers. Hard workers. People who knew the value of an honest day's work, a good laugh, a firm handshake, and keeping your word.
People who believed that faith came first, family came next, and the rest of life had a way of working itself out.
They weren't perfect people. But they were my people.
And they gave me something no amount of money could ever replace.
Roots.
The kind that hold you steady when life tries to pull you apart. The kind that remind you who you are when the world tries to tell you who you should be.
The Miles Reserve was named for my maiden name — a name I no longer sign, but one I will carry for the rest of my life.
Its rich, warm notes of orchard fruit and aged oak remind me of the land, the harvest, and the quiet strength of generations who came before me.
It's a scent that feels like coming home to something that has always been there.
Because the older I get, the more I understand that an inheritance isn't always something you can hold in your hands.
Sometimes it's the way you love your family.
The way you keep your promises.
The way you get up, say a prayer, and keep going when life gets hard.
And the way you try to leave something better for the generations coming behind you.
The Miles Reserve is my tribute to the people who gave me my beginning.
To the name that shaped me.
To the roots that still hold me.
Some names you stop signing. Some names you spend your whole life carrying.
And I will always be a Miles.
Unshakable. Southern. Rooted.

Cup of Joe
Some people feel like home. He is mine.
Before Rustic Roots was a brand, it was love.
And if there is one thing I've learned in this life, it's that home has never really been about four walls, a roof, or a place on a map.
Sometimes, home is a person.
For me, that person is Joe.
My husband. My best friend. The love of my life.
There are people who walk into your life and change it. And then there are the rare ones who become such a part of who you are that you can no longer imagine your story without them.
Joe is that person for me.
He's the steady in my storms. The laughter in my ordinary days. The arms I want around me when the world feels too heavy, and the first person I want to share every little victory with.
He's the one who believes in me when I question myself. The one who stands beside me through the hard things, the beautiful things, and all the unremarkable moments in between.
And somehow, it's those ordinary moments that have become the most extraordinary part of loving him.
A familiar voice. A shared laugh. A quiet evening together. A cup of coffee and the comfort of knowing there's nowhere else in the world you'd rather be.
That's what Cup of Joe means to me.
Its rich, warm coffee fragrance is familiar and comforting, like the first cup of the morning. But the name was never really about coffee.
It was always about him.
About a love that doesn't have to be loud to be extraordinary.
A love that makes you feel safe enough to dream, strong enough to try, and certain that whatever life brings, you won't have to face it alone.
If I could bottle what it means to be loved by him, I would.
Instead, I made a candle that carries his name.
Because when I think about all the things I want Rustic Roots to stand for — faith, family, belonging, and a love that lasts — I realize that so much of what I'm building begins with the life we've built together.
Cup of Joe is my love letter to the man who makes all of it feel like home.
Not because life is always easy.
Not because every day is perfect.
But because at the end of every day, through every season, every joy, and every heartbreak, he is still the one I would choose.
Over and over again.
In this life and every life I could imagine.
This one's for you, Joe.
You'll always be my home.
